Now, we know that the Island is beautiful all year round, but summer is when it really comes into its own. With its beautiful beaches, quaint villages and miles and miles of open space to enjoy, it’s the perfect place to be outdoors – whether as a couple, a family or a group of friends. However, if you’re looking for something else to do this June alongside wonderful walks and days lounging on the beach, you won’t be hard pressed to find an activity! Take a look at the best selections from us below.
Perhaps the biggest event on the Isle of Wight this summer will be the Isle of Wight Festival – famed for its eclectic mix of artists, friendly culture and brilliant attractions both on and off the festival site. This month, headliners include Noel Gallagher and George Ezra. Taking place on the 13th to the 16th of June at its usual spot at Seaclose Park, there’s plenty happening around the site in neighbouring Newport if you don’t have tickets!
If the idea of a full blown music festival feels a bit much, and you’re looking instead for the perfect relaxing break, this year there are two events that might be perfect for you to enjoy! Firstly, the Awakening Festival of Wellbeing will be held at Weston Manor on the 8th and 9th of June and will include wellbeing workshops, yoga, dance movement sessions, meditation and takeaway talks and tools for all things self-love and self-care. Then, Ventnor Botanic Gardens are also hosting the brilliant Yoga Vibe Festival from the 21st to the 23rd of June and get you in the yoga mood with health and fitness studios to sample the yoga classes, talks and demonstrations. Both of these are the perfect indulgence which can ensure a wonderful, relaxing break away.
For those travelling with children, there’s no chance of the little ones being bored. Kids will love the Tractors and Engines Weekend at Tapnell Farm on the 15th and 16th of June – not only are there some big machines but there’ll also be a Father’s Day Go Kart Grand Prix – team up to see who makes it to the podium! There’ll also be ghosts, stolen treasure and a young man’s race to save more than just his family from ruin in Toby’s Treasure, outdoor theatre at Northwood House – enjoy the show from the 6th to the 9th of June. Finally, the Island Mardi Gras will be shimmying its way into town on the 29th of June in Ryde with 800 children and young people participating in fabulous carnival costume. It’s truly a spectacle for the whole family to enjoy!
If you’re looking to enjoy a little sport during your holiday, June is one of the best times to travel! The 29th of June will see the Round the Island Race give its usual thrills and spills with 1600 boats, crewed by some of the biggest names in sailing as well as keen amateur sailors, skim past The Needles, the Island’s distinctive rocky structure, round St Catherine’s Point and Bembridge Ledge and back into the Solent. It’s a perfect event to spectate, and there’s plenty going on around the Island during this time too.
June is also the month of The Royal Isle of Wight County Show, which will be taking place on the 30th of June including animals galore, a dog show, sheep shearing, local food, arts and crafts. Much more than this, the show will be hosting some special guests – the Queen’s Household Cavalry! They’ll be performing their famous Musical Ride, which a series of military maneuvers set to music. There are 28 elite riders and 4 musicians creatinga brilliant spectacle for everyone to enjoy.
