Summer holidays can be expensive – and whilst we know that all of our guests always get the best offers possible in our affordable, luxury guest accommodation, we also know that sometimes it can be helpful for our guests to know what activities they can do on the Isle of Wight that won’t cost them any money.

We’ve come up with a list of some free things to do on the Isle of Wight that are fun to do, but kind on the purse strings too.

Walk some of the beautiful Island walks

This summer, we’re looking to be getting some glorious weather – which means that it’s perfect for a lovely stroll along the beach, along the downs or even on along the cliffs on the Island’s West Wight coast. A gorgeous way to spend a day soaking in the sun, experiencing the views, and your purse will thank you for it later.

Go fossil hunting

It wouldn’t be dinosaur Island without being a great spot for Fossil hunting, would it? There are always new fossils being uncovered on the Island regularly on beaches near Brook and many palaeontologists here on the Island do run guided Fossil Hunting walks that visitors can join for free or at low cost. It’s a great activity to participate in and to learn from – and you might just leave with some prehistoric treasure, too.

Experience the song of Quarr Abbey

The Isle of Wight is actually home to a community of Benedictine monks – and Quarr Abbey is a wonderful place to visit for a different experience when on your holiday. Up to seven times a day, the monks will actually sing and chant hymns and psalms, which visitors can listen to. Visitors are encouraged to sit a while and listen – reflecting on their thoughts and reaching complete relaxation.

Take in the art exhibitions in Quay Arts in Newport

If you’re interested in the arts – the heart of the Island is a great place to experience some of the local talent. Quay Arts in Newport always houses different exhibitions throughout the year for visitors and locals alike can experience and enjoy the best of local talent and talent from afar.

Enjoy a free National Trust event

Home to a staggering level of natural beauty, the National Trust on the Isle of Wight has a brilliant line of free events taking place across the whole of the Island, particularly in Mottistone Manor gardens which are just a stones throw away from the self-catering accommodation at Brook House.
