They do say that once Halloween is out of the way, then it’s Christmas next! The festive season will be here before you know it, and if there’s anything that we’ve learned, it’s that it is great to be prepared for Christmas so that you can simply sit back and just enjoy the big day when it rolls around.

So how do you make the most of the festive season on the Isle of Wight? It surely starts with shopping, as there are plenty of options on the Island where you can grab the perfect presents for your loved ones. Whether you enjoy shopping in some of the larger stores in Newport or Ryde, or you want to enjoy the homemade boutiques that are available in Ventnor, Cowes and Freshwater, there truly is something for everyone. For those who like to leave things a little bit last minute, perhaps you can browse the stalls at the Ventnor Indoor Christmas Market on the 23rd and 24th of December and stock up on presents and stocking fillers, just before the big day.

If home-made presents are more your style, then there’s an array of things to be made at a weekend of Christmas craftiness across the Island. You can try making aromatherapy candles, bath bombs, decorations and even the creation of a natural wreath. There are places all across the Island, including Arreton Barns, where you can do just that! Friends and family will be delighted to receive a unique present which has been made with love by yours truly.

For the little ones, alongside festive events at some of the bigger attractions like Blackgang Chine, Osborne House and Robin Hill, there’s also a special bear puppet craft taking place at the Brading Roman Villa this christmas season. Little ones can hunt for all of the parts that they need to make the bear puppet in the grounds, and then go inside to pull it together, and make a delightful festive keepsake that will last for years to come. Alongside the bear puppet, children can also decorate masks and make a mosaic coaster, and lots more.

Finally, not forgetting the rustic beauty of the Island, there are also a series of walks and beaches (many of which have now been reverted back to being dog friendly for the winter!) available. Just remember to bring your coat, hat and wellies with you – and source a few of the lovely pubs and cafes to stop in along your chosen route.
