We’re in a wonderful rural location
Situated on the beautiful, rural coastline of West Wight, Brook is a peaceful location to enjoy all of the best that the Isle of Wight has to offer. Rolling hills and beautiful beaches, alongside local artisan shops and plenty of pubs and restaurants, are all within easy reach for guests in the self catering accommodation at Brook House.
Not only is it perfectly peaceful, but it’s close to a range of local amenities too. A great spot to visit when staying with us is the Sun Inn at Hulverstone. Within easy walking distance from any of our properties, it serves good pub grub and is lovely in the winter with its glorious roaring fire, and great in the summer in the beer garden with a spectacular view out to sea.
Just a few miles further afield is the picture postcard village of Brighstone, with its village shops, museum and The Three Bishops pub – which specialises in real ale and more recently opened a gin bar for visitors to sample from and enjoy. In the other direction, there’s larger Freshwater or Yarmouth with wider choices of cafes, pubs, restaurants and shops to enjoy an afternoon milling around in. For those looking to dine in, there’s plenty of award winning farm shops and artisan producers where you can pick up a range of stunning ingredients to enjoy after a night of cooking.
There are also plenty of the Islands top tourist attractions to enjoy nearby – including the National Trust gardens at Mottistone Manor, Alum Bay with its views out to the famous rock formations, plus chairlift, boat rides, coloured sands, amusements and glass making at the Needles Park. There’s also the oldest themed attraction in the UK – Blackgang Chine – which hosts attractions from Dinosaurs through to fairytales and pirate ships for children to enjoy, and plenty more for kids – like the Isle of Wight Zoo, Dinosaur Museum, WightKarting go kart track, Carisbrooke Castle and Osborne House.
It’s perfect for groups
One of the most unique things about Brook House is that we can cater to groups so well, despite our rural location. Often, many visitors to the Island think that if they are in a large group, they will be confined to the larger tourist towns and hotel rooms, and we’re pleased to say that this isn’t the case at Brook House.
Our largest offering is the Old Coach House, which sleeps 8, with the option of two extra children, it’s perfect for families or groups looking for a week away or a short break of two or more nights, all year round. With two dogs available on arrangement, the accommodation is perfect for the whole family. The Old Coach House is extremely spacious, with plenty of room for everyone. With an eat-in country kitchen diner, four bedrooms (two doubles and two twins), two bathrooms and a beautiful enclosed garden, you can enjoy dining together on cosy nights in or a BBQ al-fresco on one of the warm summer nights the Island has to offer.
However, if you need to accomodate more than 8 people, there’s also the neighbouring properties which share the same courtyard – Northbrook which sleeps 6 and Westbrook which sleeps 4, meaning that a group of 18 can comfortably stay at Brook House and be just a stone’s throw away from each other. This is perfect for Weddings, family getaways, couples holidays and even workplace events.
It’s great for a digital detox
Whether you browse your Instagram or Twitter feed at your desk, or get your Facebook fix while watching TV, you’d be horrified to know how many times a day you check social media. And have you ever stopped to think what it’s doing to your health and wellbeing? From improving your sleep to quashing anxiety, a digital detox could work wonders, and Brook House is the perfect place to get one.
Whether simply enjoying quality time in our cottages, or getting out and seeing the world not through a screen, there’s plenty to do offline whilst staying with us. Visitors can go pottery painting at Chessell Pottery barn, whilst enjoying a selection of their wonderful afternoon teas, and travel to Ventnor Botanical Gardens to see a selection of plants and fauna from all over the world, or visit Ventnor esplanade, where fresh crab and lobster or locally landed fish can be purchased – as well as the traditional fish and chips to eat there.
If you’re looking for a stroll down the beach or even a day relaxing on the sandy shores, there’s unspoilt sandy beaches close by at Brook and Compton (which is a favourite for surfers due to the quality of the waves), there are also shallow beaches at Colwell and Totland around 10 minutes away in the car – both with cafes and other amenities, including a footpath between the two for keen walkers.
Speaking of keen walkers, the Island is perfect for those looking for a walking holiday. There are miles of spectacular walks along the heritage coast, including on cliffs and downlands and many are easily accessible from the Brook House properties. The Island boasts over 160 miles of bridleways, over 500 miles of well-kept footpaths, and a 60 mile round the Island cycle network. One of the most popular coastal paths runs past Brook along the south coast – running from Totland to St Lawrence, which we would always recommend to our guests. There’s also the inland trail, Tennyson Trail, which passes Brook.
A home away from home
One of the best parts about enjoying self catering accommodation at Brook House is that you truly can make it a home away from home.
All of our properties have been refurbished throughout the years to offer a series of country home touches, which really make the properties a homely place to spend a holiday.
